Chess Set

This chess set was born from a childhood dream and a friendship.

I fell in love with the game as a kid. Years later, that love took shape in wood when Mario Cedi, from Taller Entorno, came along at exactly the right moment. Together we created a set faithful to the canonical proportions of classical chess — every piece designed to feel alive in the hand, balanced, playable.

It was also the perfect excuse to finally work with cocobolo, an almost mythical wood for me, with deep grain and a character all its own. A material that deserved a project worthy of it.

At Taller Batán we are used to working at large scale. This set took us to the opposite extreme: precision at its finest.
